As a lash educator and cosmetology instructor, it has been one of my personal missions to educate salon professionals on the importance of being insured for professional liability. This is not a fluffy post about pretty lashes and getting the perfect photo to post on social media. This, my fellow salon professionals, is serious business. We spend so much time trying to find the perfect location to open our business – we spend countless hours on décor, product lines, and advertising. So, let’s not forget to protect our investment by being covered for unexpected expenses. This post is not legal advice, just my experience. Always seek professional advice if you are unsure of what you require.

Content and Liability Insurance for Your Salon

If you are renting retail or office space, most landlords require contents and liability insurance. This protects the landlord and your business if there is ever a claim, accident or lawsuit. Let’s hope things never go that far, but we need to be prepared for any such occurrence. Leaving yourself open to potential legal issues can be prevented by purchasing an insurance policy that covers you, your staff, salon contents, and your landlord. I never take for granted that my salon professionals have their own coverage.

What You Risk Without Salon Insurance

This may seem like an unnecessary expense, but not having coverage could lead to several issues. We list them out below.
  1. You could lose potential customers.
  2. Clients may question your business and your integrity.
  3. If you ruin your business name, it can be a long road to reestablishing your credibility.
  4. You could open the door for any previous unhappy clients.
Some of the issues that can be brought up in a lawsuit are:
  • Oversight and errors.
  • Not delivering services.
  • A service that doesn’t meet the industry standards.
You do not want to catch yourself in the event you are faced with an issue in your salon. Your reputation and business is too valuable to risk losing. Get salon insurance before it is too late!

Find Salon Insurance Fit for Your Business

When you are trying to protect your business investment, don’t forget to take some time and check around. Ask questions! I know insurance is not glamorous, sexy, or even a little bit interesting, but it is a MUST!
