With the onset of cold and flu season, what is your plan to keep you and your clients safe from illness? Our schedules can get jam-packed with things to do. Many of us just keep going even when we are feeling under-the-weather. We have jobs, families and other responsibilities we need to stay on top of, and really can’t afford to get sick. As a service provider - what are you going to do to keep your work environment clean and free from bacteria? I like to set a policy for my clients and staff for just such occurrences...

My Salon Policy

Mine goes along the lines of, if you are sick, please stay home. Your lashes, brows, hair and nails can wait. It’s not worth getting others sick because you have a scheduled appointment. Trust me, we all want your business, but not at the expense of our well-being.

Keep it Clean

One sick individual can start an avalanche of illness that can sweep through your salon and knock you down for days. During cold and flu season, we need to go the extra mile and really clean our environment. Disinfect all areas that are touched by your staff and clients. Door knobs, seat arm rests, phones, desk tops, computer keyboards, sink handles and any other surfaces that are touched by human hands need to be cleaned thoroughly. There are some great products out there that are easy to use and can kill germs and bacteria. Disinfecting wipes, sprays and cleaning products are readily available and should be accessible to all your staff. Please educate your staff on how to properly use these products. Through your day, you should be wiping down all of the areas of contact. Putting these practices into place will reduce the amount of exposure you, your clients, and your staff will receive. And, don’t forget about good old hand washing. Remember, it takes 45 seconds of hand washing with an anti-bacterial soap to kill germs. So, keep it clean. Let us know what your plan is to combat this cold and flu season!
