Being a service provider can be amazing, uplifting and challenging at the same time, regardless of what industry you are in. When we choose this type of profession we put ourselves out there physically, mentally and spiritually. We made a conscious choice to be a service provider because we love making others look and feel better. Along with that choice comes great reward and satisfaction. However, when we fail to meet the standards that our industry sets, we can be very hard on ourselves. What happens when we have a bad day? How do we handle that inner voice that creeps into our head at night when we lay our head on our pillow and reflect on the day? How do we process knowing we weren’t at our best? How do we tame the talk that we could have done better? We all have those days. We need to remind ourselves that we are not super man/women. We are trained service providers. We are going to have a few of those days from time to time when we may want to throw in the towel. During those times, we need to tune out the negative chatter in our headspace and focus on the great work we do most of the time. When I get into one of those moods, I remember all of the lovely sets of lashes I have done on clients. I focus on what I have done right, the great clients I have and the support of my family. I may have messed up a few times. So what? I go over the raving reviews my clients have left on social media about me personally or the service I performed. I cherish those reviews. They are unsolicited and welcomed. Sometimes it surprises me that my client had such a great experience. I live for this. My goal is to do my very best every day. So, when my inner critic acts up, I do a review of what I could have done better and move on. If I continue to battle negative thoughts, it helps to focus on positive actions that I can implement to reach a better state of mind. How do you handle your inner critic?
