Wednesday Wink - Become A Master of Volume Fans

I've spoken about my love for volume fans a few times before. Like here, here, and here! If I have convinced you of all the wonderful advantages of volume fans, and you're still not sure you're ready, now is the time to get on board and hone your skills. I have some great tips to get you started on your path to being a better volume eyelash artist...

Don't Double Dip

Well constructed volume fans already push the limit of what a hair follicle can handle - we must be hyper-vigilant in caring for the long term health of our clients' lashes. Eliminate the need to dip your fans twice by improving your skills with practice.

Pinch the Tip

Before you throw away a potentially good fan, consider pinching it together at the end. Pinching the base of the fan is not something you want to do every time, but it can be a big help when you still have training wheels on. Pinching the base pulls off the majority of the first glue dip so you don't have to worry about the effects of double dipping. Be advised, you're gonna have a little glue on your fingers! The volume glue dries fast so you won't have to worry about being sticky though. My favorite volume glue right now is the one with the purple cap. :)

Practice Until You're Pro!

I recommend practicing on the longest lashes you have. A longer lash allows you to see how the hairs are responding to your movements in an exaggerated way. Take ten minutes, once a week, to create fans - without the pressure of being mid appointment. It will help you gain a sense of ease, which in turn you will bring to your clients.

Take a Break

Getting a little frustrated? Take a break to gain back your mental poise! Sitting up for a moment, to take a deep breath, can make all the difference. Making volume fans is not easy - at first. We must be able to turn off the judge in our head in order to find ease... A wise master once told me, "Do not think, just create".
