We’ve been talking a lot of numbers lately, and it’s time for a change of pace. It’s time to take a journey beneath the surface of our beauty practices. In my new six part series "Move, Lash, BE Better", I will be giving you a holistic perspective on your business. Get ready to move, breathe and BE your way into better business and more earning potential.

My History and Philosophy

Maybe it would help for you to know a tiny bit more about me. From dirt roads to big city, I grew up just north of Los Angeles in Quartz Hill, California – the home of naturally occurring quartz crystals and the California Poppy Reserve. Since the age of nineteen, I have had a booming house-call business in LA. As a makeup artist, I specialize in volume eyelash extension, eyebrows, and spray tans. My passions, outside of making people beautiful, include gardening, Pilates, baking delicious pies, and exploring the healing arts. All things that you can find on my Instagram page @semooresarah. I made the move to LA in 2003. Not long after setting up camp, I began to be a magnet for opportunity! My first job was working the front desk at Privé Salon in West Hollywood. This job was very much like air traffic control - except the planes were congresswoman, and celebrities, with paparazzi on the runway. This high stress environment was pressure-cooking a diamond of me, though everyday I wished for some relief. Eventually, a hand from above came down in the guise of Susan, the upstairs spa manager. Susan offered me a job. We walked up a tiny wood staircase enveloped by a divine aroma, to a calm oasis… Ona Spa. Ahhhh, literally in an instant, I was at complete peace. It didn’t take long to adjust to this new world, I felt much better suited using a spa voice while sipping tea. Ona and Privé, owned by Laurent De Foung, a French hair mogul, was located in LA’s historic landmark, the ‘haunted’ Spanish kitchen on Beverly Drive. The French way of doing indulgence and grace has had a huge impact on my perception of excellence. While soaking up knowledge from world-renowned Ayurvedic healers, and estheticians, Ona is where I learned the existence of eyelash extensions. Becoming completely self-employed was a huge leap from there, and thankfully for me the Internet emerged. Quite often, I say out loud that I am the luckiest lady alive. People in my life ask me how I am so ‘lucky’, the right people and opportunities always come to me. For years, I didn’t quite know how to explain it, though now I know it's because I believe that I am fortunate. I believe everyday when I wake up that everything's going my way. Even if traffic hits, or the latte line is long, I know it's in my best interest, and everything is organizing for my greatest good. Many people perceive this as magical thinking, but thankfully science backs me up. Physics tells us that the observer actually affects particles seen through a microscope. That’s quite a power!

From Pain to Gain

Around four years into providing eyelash extensions as a service, my body began to be affected. It was my observation that many other estheticians were also experiencing the same body indications and pain. Back pains, neck, shoulder and wrist tensions consumed my attention, my pain began affecting how many hours a day I could work. It was not in my nature to slow down, I was a textbook workaholic. In order to continue to have joy in my beauty practice, I had to figure out how to take care of myself better. Fortunately, being in Los Angeles I didn’t have to look far to find experts to help me. One of the most important healing avenues I found was Pilates. I fell so in love that I spent the next seven years learning to teach it. I am here to share with you what I have discovered; it is my hope to help you move better, in and out of your workspace. As far as I can look back, I have had a fascination with understanding healing, both physical and metaphysical. We all know happy people are coined the prettiest, so as a beauty expert, I also think of myself as a teacher of happiness. The first prerequisite to happiness is a healthy body, and a healthy body has a lot to do with inner peace. My clients tell me that after their treatments they feel a sense of lightness, they say I make them feel more centered. In the upcoming series, I will be sharing with you all the ways I prepare myself, and my workspace. Including, how to evoke the five senses to help you provide the most valuable services, on every level – because real beauty is an inside job.

Why Wellness Matters in Business - being an entrepreneur of conscious capitalism

Business has the potential to have a higher purpose. We are now living in a time when human interaction is the new luxury. There is room for everyone to be successful. The market is saturated with eyelash artists, but what pulls you ahead of the pack? True abundant wealth lies within your unique gifts, your most authentic and present self. The other night, I heard the Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, when asked, "what do you think of when you are performing?" reply, “I try to NOT think... a winning performance comes from a quieted mind”. Being more present doesn’t just work for athletes, a quieted mind will take your life and lash game to the next level. Have you heard that your VIBE attracts your TRIBE? You are a unique vibrational frequency. Being a vibrational frequency, the clients coming into your life are a reflection of the radio signal you are putting out, and vice versa. It is my hope, through this series, that you will be more present in all that you do - in turn your clients will feel a greater sense of wellbeing via spending time with you, and that will spread throughout their lives, making you irreplaceable to them.
