Make It Up Monday - How Millennials Have Changed The Beauty Industry

Make It Up Monday - How Millennials Have Changed The Beauty Industry

From what I have gathered in my personal life as well as what I have read online, a 'Millennial' is someone who is a self-starter, self-assured, self-validated, is not just about instant gratification and really places a strong value on the right to vote! All of these qualities are truly respectable and honorable. I wanted to explore how the Millennial perspective influences beauty in one's life, especially since I go to work every week for a predominantly online company where 90% of the workforce is made up of Millennials. Has the beauty industry influenced the purchasing habits of this generation, or is it the other way around? I believe that the income for this group is generally less than what it was in older generations and for that reason, they are spending less. They actively use social media to enhance their purchasing experience by researching a product before buying it. They are quite savvy when it comes to searching for deals or coupon codes for their products! Overall, these young adults want sustainable and healthy beauty products that are affordable. The price point of products is definitely key. Social media is completely changing the face of how brands get people to pay attention to their makeup or skincare items, but without the Millennials propelling this forward, this entity would not have evolved as it has. Influencers are the newest and closest way to reach the consumer, with Millennials following trusted social influencers to help them guide their purchasing decisions.

I am a Generation 'X' gal and have a lot in common with the next generation. I enjoy being at the forefront of marketing campaigns and gaining early access to products through influencers that I follow. And let's not forget about the deals; Giveaways from influencers are endless and beauty-enthusiasts love a fun interactive experience! These activities have come together to make the beauty industry a much more approachable entity. Tell us, are you a part of Generation X or Y, and how do you relate?
